BrineGarden Music

Alden Brine at the BrineGarden Open Days

An afternoon of classical piano woven into the garden.

At the BrineGarden, the experience engages all the senses. The feel of the wind rustling through the birch grove raises goosebumps on the skin. The earthy, heady scent of late-blooming asters, or the subtle waft of October-crisp leaf litter. And, of course, sound. The movement of leaves, a trill of birdsong, the harsh and exciting calls of wild geese overhead—all in concert with the quiet rhythms of the landscape—compliment the experience of pathways, plantings, and vistas.

During this year's Garden Conservancy Open Days, visitors will once again encounter another layer of sound: live classical piano performed by Alden Brine, whose music drifts gently through the garden, becoming part of the atmosphere.

Rather than a traditional concert, Alden's playing is part of an immersive experience. Music emerges and recedes as visitors wander, creating moments of unexpected beauty and inviting attention to the landscape.

Meet Alden Brine

Alden began studying piano at the age of six and has devoted more than two decades to exploring the classical repertoire. Music runs deep in his family: his great-uncle, renowned clarinetist and educator Joe Allard, performed under Arturo Toscanini and taught at the Juilliard School.

Alden carries this musical legacy forward through a deeply personal relationship with the piano. As he simply puts it, "Music is essential."

His performances have included private events, benefit concerts, and collaborations with other musicians throughout the region. Based in New York's Hudson Valley, Alden is available for private engagements, community events, and performances for congregations and other organizations.
